Make the bot
- Open the Bot Directory, find BotSmith and choose Start.
- Send /newbot and the name people should see, for example Match Day.
- Send an @username: 5 to 32 letters, numbers or underscores, starting with a letter. Ending it in bot helps people recognise it.
- BotSmith replies with the bot’s token. Keep it secret: anyone who has it can control the bot.
Describe it
- /setabout: the short line on its profile and in the directory.
- /setdescription: what it can do, shown before people start it.
- /setuserpic: its profile photo.
- /setcommands: one per line, such as
start - Start the bot. People see them in the menu next to the message box. - /setprivacy and /setjoingroups: what it reads in groups, and whether people can add it to groups.
/mybots lists your bots with a button for each setting. /listbot asks Red Zircon to list it in the Bot Directory.
Tokens and deleting
/token issues a new token and /revoke stops the current one; /deletebot deletes a bot for good. Each needs a tap on BotSmith’s confirmation button. You can have up to 20 bots, and you can do the same in KyaChat Web under Settings > Bots.
Write the code
A bot is driven by your code through the Bot API. The developer guide and the Bot API reference explain the rest.
