A proper Linux desktop app

Pick the package that suits your system. All of them are the same KyaChat.

Installs with apt, adds KyaChat to your app menu and pulls in what it needs.

AppImage for everything else

One file for Fedora and other distributions. It adds itself to your app menu and updates itself in place.

Desktop notifications

New messages use your desktop’s notification service, with the app icon.

Tray with unread count

On KDE, Cinnamon, Xfce, MATE, Budgie and Ubuntu’s desktop, closing the window keeps KyaChat in the tray.

Your keyring

Your sign-in is kept in the desktop keyring, or in a private file only you can read if there is none.

Links open the app

Invite, chat and profile links open in KyaChat through its kyachat:// handler.

  3. Sign in

Sign in with your KyaChat email address and password, or create an account.

Questions about KyaChat for Linux

Which Linux distributions are supported?

The .deb is for Ubuntu 22.04 or later and Debian 12 or later. The AppImage runs on Fedora 39 or later and other current 64-bit (x86-64) distributions.

Is there a Snap?

KyaChat is coming to the Snap Store. Until then, use the .deb or the AppImage from this page.

Why is there no tray icon on my desktop?

Plain GNOME does not show tray icons without the AppIndicator extension. Without a tray, closing the window quits KyaChat instead of hiding it.

How do I update KyaChat?

The .deb shows a banner when a new version is out, with a link to the download. The AppImage downloads the new version over itself. Snaps update through the Snap Store.

How do I check the download?

Run sha256sum on the file and compare the result with the SHA-256 at the top of this page.

Is KyaChat for Linux free?

Yes. KyaChat is free, and there are no adverts.
