Change your theme and wallpaper

Choose a theme

1. Open Settings > Appearance, on the web or in the apps.
2. Under Mode choose Auto to follow your device, or Light or Dark.
3. Under Themes tap a theme. The preview at the top shows it straight away, and it is saved at once.

There are 50 themes: 25 designs, each in light and dark. The default is Zircon, with a faceted diamond wallpaper.

Change the wallpaper

• Under Wallpaper pick another design, or Plain for none. Pattern strength makes it softer or bolder.
• To use a picture of your own, choose Use your own photo, then set Blur and Dim so messages stay easy to read.

Give one chat its own wallpaper

1. Open the chat and its details.
2. Choose Chat wallpaper, pick one and choose Set wallpaper.

Only you see it, on all your devices. Choose Default to go back to your theme’s wallpaper.

Colours, text size and compact mode

In Appearance you can also pick an Accent colour or a Custom colour, change the Text size and Bubble corners, and turn on Compact mode for tighter messages and chat list. Reset customisations puts everything back.

Share your theme

Choose Share theme and copy the link. Anyone who opens it while signed in can use your theme in one tap; without an account they see a preview. Your own photo is never shared. You can also ask @themebot to browse themes and apply one in a chat.
